Why Kenpo Karate?

Martial Arts vs
Self-Defense

Over the last 30 years the world has become a safer place, but violence still happens and knowing how to protect yourself from it takes more than being able to throw a clean punch to the jaw.

Martial Arts are the arts of war, self-defense is actually a legal term (that can get you in a lot of trouble if not used properly).

Self-protection is a mindset and martial arts can be a tool to help you protect yourself and others.

American Kenpo Karate

Senior Grandmaster Ed Parker grew up studying several martial arts in Hawaii, over time he took all of his experience and turned it into American Kenpo. Master Parker took what learned, analyzed it and adapted it to the American culture by doing things like:

  • Using English terminology
  • Encouraging questions and experimentation
  • Requiring students create their own interpretations backed up with analysis and explanation
  • Tailoring the arts to the individual practitioner

American Kenpo is characterized by rapid short-range strikes, utilizing economy of motion and logic to respond to situations dynamically.
